Subject: IMPORTANT details about the AFC camping trip

Dear Freshmen and Sophomore Advocates,

Below are important details about the camping trip.

We have already ordered food and buses based on the number of people we
assume are going. We are spending a little over $50 on each person. Please
be there, on time!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHERE AND WHEN:

We will be meeting Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. at the fish tank in
Cumberland Hall (south lobby--NOT the one with the front desk).

On Sunday afternoon we will leave the camp by 4:00 p.m., or earlier if
necessary in order to make it back here by 6:30 p.m. at the latest.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PACKING LIST:

Sleeping bag or blanket(s), pillow if desired.

Layers of clothing. It may be warm during the day and cold at night, so
bring some of each kind of clothing. Shorts are okay for our daytime
activities, but also bring a sweatshirt and/or jacket, long pants, warm
socks, etc.

Swimming suit if you think you might want it for the big creek. I asked
them if there was a spot that was deep enough for real swimming and they
said yes, about a dozen people at a time. We'll see what it's like when we
get there.

Hiking boots or (preferably) sneakers. No open-toed shoes or sandals.

Flashlight.

Towel.

Personal toiletry items and/or medications.

Deck of cards, frisbee, softball glove and bat, etc. (optional)

*Do NOT bring*:
     ^^^
Walkmans, radios, electronic games, and other items that discourage
interaction with others.

Hair dryers, curling irons, electric razors, and other items that blow
sensitive cabin fuses.

Alcohol, illegal drugs (obviously).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IF YOU HAVEN'T TURNED 18 YET:

If you haven't had your 18th birthday yet, our release form (legal stuff we
have to do) says that you should have talked to your parents about this
trip and that they agree with your decision to participate.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
VEGETARIANS AND THOSE ALLERGIC TO MILK:

I discussed your varying situations with the kitchen manager, and she is
planning to make some accommodations (including special food at the two
lunches, and inclusion of some non-meat alternatives generally), but she
suggested that for those who are very strict or restrictive, you might want
to bring some extra snacks to supplement the meals. Call me if you have any
concern about this, or if you want to know anything about the menu.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IF YOU HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION:

If you have allergies, asthma, epilepsy, or any other condition that might
limit your activities during the weekend, please send me an e-mail by
Friday describing it. Same if you are taking any medications we should know
about, in case of emergency.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OTHERS WITH SPECIAL SITUATIONS:

If you have already contacted me by phone or in person about a special
situation affecting your participation and have NOT sent me an e-mail,
please do so ASAP. If you have a special situation and have NOT contacted
me AT ALL, please do so ASAP. If you have sent me an e-mail, you may assume
that we have made an accommodation for you, but I will be contacting you by
e-mail according to groups of students in the same situation; please check
your e-mail and keep an eye out for it. I will try to send it tonight or
tomorrow morning.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been trying to get to this important e-mail for a week but urgent work
has kept interfering. Sorry about that.

Please check your e-mail every day. I will send another one if I discover
I've forgotten something or if something else comes up.

See you Saturday morning. It should be a lot of fun.
