Second-year Announcements
September 16, 2000
To: 2nd-year Advocates
From: Stephen Wright <sw125@umail.umd.edu>
Subject: AFC: IMPORTANT announcement about field trip requirements

Dear 2nd-year Advocate,

This anouncement about a change in field trip requirements may affect your
plans for field trips, including even the camping trip next weekend, so I
wanted to send it out now rather than waiting to announce it in next
Wednesday's class.

After discussing the issue among the faculty, some alums and students,
we've decided that the Holocaust Museum trip will not "count" as a field
trip for 2nd-year students. That trip, in conjunction with a speaker who
spent part of his/her childhood in the Holocaust, is designed primarily for
the freshmen, and a great many of you participated last year. We want to
encourage you to go on other field trips too. You are still welcome to go
to the Holocaust Museum with the 1st-year students if you like, but you are
expected to go on another field trip (or 2 "half field trips") also. We
will definitely have *at least* 2 "half field trips" in addition to the
student-planned October field trip and the camping trip next weekend.

I apologize for forgetting to announce this in class last Wednesday, and
for not being able to make time to get this e-mail out until now.
