1. ATTENDANCE MAKE-UP WORK:
As you are all aware, there is an assignment due today for those of you who missed colloquium on April 8. If you are planning to email it, please send it to Elizabeth (elizb@wam.umd.edu).

2. ANNUAL ADVOCATES BARBEQUE:
The 3rd annual Advocates for Children barbeque will be held on Wednesday, May 6, directly following colloquium. The picnic will be held at Steve's house, and you are all invited and encouraged to attend! Although Steve's house is only a 10-15 minute walk from Jimenez, transportation will be provided for those who would prefer it, either by van or by your fellow students. We will be passing around a sign up sheet in class today, so please indicate if you are going to attend, and if you are able to drive. We will also ask for volunteers to help prepare and set up on May 6, from about noon till 2:00. Talk to sophomores who went last year about how "way cool" and fun it was last year. Thanks, and hope to see you there!

3. SECOND-YEAR ADVOCATES:
Capstone paper due on or before May 13th (3-4 typed pages, double-spaced). Give your reactions to the Advocates program, especially the benefits and your suggestions for the improvement of the program.

4. AL'S "ADVOCACY PROJECTS" GROUP:
A report of what your group did and the success of your efforts is due on or before May 13th (3-4 typed pages, double-spaced). What did you learn? What suggestions do you have for those who might do a similar project? What ideas do you have for other advocacy projects? (One report for the group; include all student's names).

5. SOFTBALL UPDATE:
We are proud to announce that Advocates for Children has already raised $96.72 and has earned the #1 seed in the upcoming softball tournament. We only need another $3.28 to hit our goal. Thanks to everyone who donated for the cause, and please come this Saturday to support our program. Even if you are not playing, you can still come and enjoy the free food, frisbee, and fun, all day long on the engineering fields. If you are still interested in playing or helping Kevin in running the tournament that day (Sat., April 25 from 10 am - 6 pm), please contact him after class.

6. FILM ON ABORTION & DRUG ADDICTION:
We received the following invitation from the CPS American cultures program:

April 28 topic: Abortion/Drug Addiction
Film: Citizen Ruth (105 min.)
I want to invite you and your students to a series of films I'll be showing as part of the colloquium for second-year American Cultures students. Screenings begin at 4:15 pm and take place in 1130 Plant Sciences. There is plenty of room! We are looking at the way Hollywood depicts controversial social/political issues like abortion, freedom of speech, etc.

7. SHAI MIRANDA VERTER MEMORIAL TOY DRIVE:
Toys are being collected for the Children's Hospital Oncology ward. You can donate toys for these children in the Student Union, and Cumberland and Centreville Halls, from April 13 through April 24. If you would like to make a monetary donation, please send it to the Advocates for Children Office in 1120 Cumberland. For more information, contact Advocate Stacey Felzenberg .

8. FIRST-YEAR ADVOCATES:
Those who are doing their internships during the summer should submit a proposal as soon as possible.

9. ROOM SELECTION:
On April 29th, Cambridge Community Floor Meetings are being held for room selection. For more information, please contact your Resident Director or ask your RA's.
